The UK Antarctic Heritage Trust, working with Antarctic Heritage Ltd, is seeking an experienced Head of Commercial to drive revenue and profit growth across our trading activity.

This is a hands-on commercial leadership role with real purpose. You will lead our product proposition, trading performance and commercial strategy across e-commerce, wholesale, licensing, partnerships and our iconic on-continent retail operation at Port Lockroy in Antarctica.
Port Lockroy is distinctive, successful and globally known and is a vital and inspiring retail experience upon which we want to build. The biggest growth opportunity now is to scale online sales, develop wholesale, and broaden our licensing reach, turning global interest in Antarctica into sustainable, unrestricted income that directly supports UKAHT’s conservation and public engagement work.
UKAHT exists to conserve British Antarctic heritage and bring people closer to Antarctica’s extraordinary stories, from wildlife and human endeavour to conservation, science and climate change. Antarctic Heritage Ltd is our trading company, and building a stronger, more profitable model will help us protect historic sites, grow public programmes and extend our impact in protecting Antarctica.

The opportunity
This is a unique commercial role in a truly unique context.
You will lead a high-potential trading portfolio spanning retail in Antarctica, a growing international e-commerce offer, wholesale, licensing and commercial partnerships. You will have end-to-end ownership of the product proposition, from concept and range development to positioning, trading performance and commercial partnerships. Sustainability, authenticity and brand integrity will sit at the heart of your approach.
We have a clear ambition to grow trading income over the coming years while sustaining the unique value of Port Lockroy. The Head of Commercial will lead delivery against agreed growth plans and be accountable for key commercial KPIs, including revenue, margin, contribution, conversion and stock performance.

What it’s like to work for UKAHT
UKAHT is a small, highly collaborative team of full and part-time staff, freelancers, agency partners and specialist advisers based across the UK. Our work spans heritage, conservation, operations, logistics, fundraising, retail, communications, finance, storytelling, policy and Antarctica.
Our office base at the British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge connects us closely with scientists, operational specialists, archivists and environmental managers, and gives us access to shared facilities that support our work and partnerships.
We have a well established hybrid working culture that balances flexible online collaboration with purposeful time together. The whole team meets quarterly in Cambridge, and locally based colleagues work from the office at least once a week.
Each year, we recruit and deploy an Antarctic team to work at Port Lockroy and our other historic sites. Port Lockroy is a museum, penguin colony and post office, welcoming visitors from around the world. It is where we connect people with Antarctic heritage, generate vital income and support global interest in Antarctica. Our conservators also work across our sites to maintain, monitor and digitally record these remarkable historic places and their artefacts.
We are united by our values of collaboration, aspiration, innovation, responsibility and openness, and by a shared passion for Antarctica, its heritage and the responsibility we have to protect and share it.

Our ambition over the next decade is to safeguard British heritage in Antarctica, engage a growing and increasingly diverse audience, and use our expertise and influence to help secure a sustainable future for one of the most remarkable places on Earth.
