Working with UKAHT
A unique career
BRITISH HERITAGE IN ANTARCTICA
We manage Port Lockroy along with five further former British Bases on the Antarctic Peninsula and maintain a heritage interest in others, such as Deception Island and the Heroic era huts in the Ross Sea. Each site tells a unique story of discovery and scientific exploration from the sledging trips of Horseshoe, to the chequered history of Deception Island which started as a whaling station and later became a research base during Operation Tabarin.
BRINGING ANTARCTICA CLOSER TO YOU
Each year we bring Antarctica into the lives of millions of people across the UK and around the world, through an interactive programme of events and activities. Discover the hidden treasures and amazing stories of this extraordinary place through our inspiring talk series, get transported by our podcast or find an event happening near you.
SEASONALLY
We offer an amazing opportunity for people to join a charity that is leading the way in the UK's Antarctic historical conservation.
We have small dedicated teams in Antarctica and the UK who work hard to keep our operation going, preserving our Antarctic heritage and sharing it with the world. Each year we recruit a team to run and manage Port Lockroy in Antarctica and occasionally also have vacancies for other specialist roles both in the UK and Antarctica. Job vacancies are advertised on this website and on social media. Check out our latest news page for up to date vacancies. We politely ask that you keep an eye on these pages for any updates rather than contact us directly.
Workplace & culture
A workplace is more than a place to work - it is a place where you are making a difference and valued.
We have a dedicated team who strive to be the best version of themselves as they can. We are supportive, understanding and welcoming.
UKAHT is committed to equal opportunities and to learning how to increase the diversity of our people. We welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons and encourage applications from people currently underrepresented in the polar regions.

About UK Antarctic Heritage Trust
UK Antarctic Heritage Trust is a charity helping more people to discover, value, understand and protect Antarctica. Through conservation, policy and public engagement, we connect people with Antarctica’s wonder and promote a greater understanding of this extraordinary continent and the role we all have in protecting it.
We are one of the only charities in the world with an active presence in Antarctica. We care for seven Historic Sites and Monuments, including Port Lockroy, the “Penguin Post Office”, Shackleton’s Endurance shipwreck and five early research bases along 1,000 miles of remote Antarctic coastline.
These are modest wooden buildings and personal artefacts, but they hold unparalleled stories. They are completely unique in the world.
Through our public engagement programme, we bring Antarctica closer to people everywhere, from virtual reality tours, podcasts and webinars to schools talks, grassroots arts projects and youth engagement. In 2024/25, we reached 88,000 children and adults through our public engagement work.
